The ocean is beautiful today on this Memorial Day!
Waves rolling in under warm, partly cloudy skies here at Myrtle Beach — temps in the low-to-mid 80s with that classic coastal humidity. Perfect for a beach day (watch for a few pop-up showers this afternoon).
Grateful for the brave men and women who gave everything so we can enjoy days like this.

Closer look at the action off Myrtle Beach, SC!
The Cape Hatteras was hard at work just offshore. This sleek 99-foot Multi-Cat dredge support vessel (built in 2023) is playing a key role in the ongoing beach nourishment project.

We’re also excited to open submissions for the 22nd Myrtle Beach International Film Festival — send us your best work!

Film Thought of the Day: Shooting for the big screen versus television and social media isn’t just about budget, it’s about how the story looks and feels.

On the big screen, filmmakers traditionally embrace 24fps for that dreamy, cinematic motion. The slightly lower frame rate gives movement a smoother more life like feel. Wider shooting formats like 2.39:1 scope or even go Cinescope to fill the massive canvas and pull the audience into the world.

For TV/streaming, the rhythm often shifts. Many shows shoot at 23.98fps or 29.97fps, and the 16:9 or 1.78:1 frame feels more tightly boxed and immediate, perfect for close-ups, fast cuts and dialogue-driven storytelling that lives on smaller screens and phones.

The format and frame rate you choose isn’t only technical, it’s also emotional. It tells the audience what kind of experience they’re in for before the story even begins.

If you are shooting for the big screen consider 23.98 or 24p. If you are shooting for the smaller screen with a lot of action consider 29.97 or 30p or even 59.97 or 60p for that crisper hyper realism.

Film in the frame and format that is designed for the proper output with the look and feel you are going for.
