After 3 super fun years of hosting the Gonzo Torture Race, we (NCVC and Otterhaus) have made the decision not to put on the race going forward. We give a large THANK YOU to all of you who have supported the race by participating or volunteering. It was very rewarding to design, plan, and carry out this race. There is no other race in the region with the combination of road, gravel, and elevation, and beauty that the GTR has. That said, gravel and mixed surface races are increasing across the U.S. and will continue to be popular. Please continue to show support for regional races on the 2023 calendar, as well as new and exciting races in years to come. Thanks again!

Sorry for the delay, but it's taken a few days for us to decompress. First, thank you all for coming out! The weather was great, and you all were amazing!

As many of you can verify now, this race is no joke! Gambrill Park Rd got the best of quite a few riders this year. Between the potholes and the elevation, this is a race to remember.

Also, we have extra t-shirts still if you didn’t get yours. Let me know and we can make plans for you to pick one up. The same goes for the last two years. You will actually be doing me a favor by helping me get them out of my basement.

If you have drop bag items you didn't pick up, let me know if you would like to drop by in Germantown to pick them up before they are repurposed or discarded.

Gonzo Torture Race FAQs to date:
Do I need a USAC license to race the Gonzo Torture Race? No you do not. Register away license or no license!
Are the course maps available for download? Yes! Go to the BikeReg registration link https://www.bikereg.com/the-gonzo-torture-race . Go to to “Event Notes” and each course is in Strava and Ride With GPS format.
What kind of bike do I need? Gravel, CX, road or MTB will work! Its a mixed surface race with a lot of climbing so each bike type will have its strength and weakness area but all have been used successfully. Most popular choice is a gravel/CX bike with high volume, low tread tires, but the overall race has been won on a road bike with rim brakes the last 2 editions with gravel bikes in close proximity.
