Big things are in the works at the Woodbury County Fairgrounds 👀

Over the past winter and spring, the Woodbury County Fair Board has been exploring feasible options related to the future of our Show Ring project and surrounding facilities. As we look ahead to what’s possible, a great deal of thoughtful planning, conversations, and consideration has been happening behind the scenes.

📝 Stay tuned — we’ll be sharing a community survey soon and would love your input as we continue exploring future opportunities for our fairgrounds.

🎨🎡 2026 Fair T-Shirt Design Contest 🎡🎨

We’re excited to kick off another year of Fair—and once again, give one of our talented 4-H members or clubs the chance to design this year’s official Fair t-shirt!

We’ve made a small change to the entry process this year to open things up even more. Each club can now submit as many designs as they’d like—we didn’t want to limit all that creativity!

Please note: If you were a previous “Best Design” winner, you are not eligible to enter this year.

We absolutely love seeing the creativity that comes from our youth, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with for 2026!

🎡 Meet the Fair Board Monday Spotlight 🎡
Troy Kelsheimer, Executive Board Member

Troy grew up in Anthon, later moved to Moville, and now resides south of Climbing Hill. He serves on the Fair Board’s Beer Barn, and Buildings & Grounds committees, and also serves on the Anthon Community Development Corporation Committee.

His connection to the fair runs deep—from his youth to today—having served on the Fair Board since 2013. When asked his “why,” Troy shares:
"I just love the Fair and want to see the kids grow each year with it. It’s just a great family community."

What makes the Woodbury County Fair special to him is the camaraderie each year—seeing familiar faces return, meeting new ones, and watching the community come together.

Three words to describe him: loyal, hardworking, and dependable.

Every day of fair week is a favorite, but one standout memory is going down the slide with the Beer Barn Committee. And if there’s one fair food he’d eat on repeat? Hands down—BBQ.

A role model who shaped who he is today is his dad. Troy shares, “He was one of the greatest men I’ve ever known. He taught me about giving back and just being kind to everyone.”

Outside of the fair, Troy enjoys camping, hunting, time with family, and tinkering in his shop. He also works as a Senior Claims Specialist at Great West Casualty, where he’s been for the past 11 years.

This spring, the Woodbury County Fair Board had the opportunity to visit schools across the county and distribute more than 400 VIP Fair Passes to local 3rd graders 💜

Each student received:
🎟️ A FREE Fair admission ticket
🎡 A FREE carnival ride ticket donated by McDermott Family Shows
🏅 A VIP Fair lanyard for their visit to the Fair in August

Longtime Fair Board member Mark Petit shared:

“We want these students to come out and experience the Fair in August — and hopefully inspire them to join their local 4-H club.”

As we prepare to celebrate the 98th Woodbury County Fair, we’re excited to continue investing in youth, agriculture, leadership, and community involvement for the next generation.

We can’t wait to welcome these students and their families to the Fair this August ☀️🐄🎠

🎨 2026 Vendor Spotlight 🎨
Sidekick Caricatures

"I've been coming to the Woodbury County Fair since around 1997, missing only 2 times for when I had my kids in 2006 and 2008. I draw live caricatures and I use an airbrush to color them. It's fun to come and watch even if you don't want to get one done. And if you happen to have to wait in line, the view of the Free Stage is right there!"

Whether you’re getting your own caricature done or just stopping by to watch the magic happen, it’s always a fun experience for all ages.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage and sacrifice allow us the freedoms we enjoy every day—including the opportunity to gather as a community.
