Lauren Wilson -- Lincoln Highway Arts Festival Artist
My name is Lauren Wilson, and I am an artist from Cedar Rapids Iowa. I have lived in Iowa my whole life, but I have visited many other places around the country. I've studied and Kirkwood Community College and am now embarking on a journey at the University of Iowa to study graphic design and psychology. I have a rat terrier dog named Feist, and he lives up to his name. He's ten years old, and yet he has just as much energy as he did when he was very young. When I'm not neck-deep in homework or other responsibilities, I like to engage in a lot of hobbies. I like to ride my bike, exercise, make jewelry, draw, garden, go to concerts and shows, hang out with my boyfriend Bryce, and go on road trips when I can. Not necessarily in that order.
I've been drawing since I was about 4 years old. I started out drawing horses, flowers, and people. Throughout my life, nature has been a huge inspiration for my art and has ingrained itself in my life in a very non-trivial way. It started when my family moved into a farmhouse near Lone Tree, Iowa. There, I got close to the concept of living off the land. We had farm animals and several gardens for the few years we lived there, and I quickly established a bond with being outside a lot and being out in nature. Since then, I've definitely kept that bond. I don't consider myself affiliated with any particular recognized religion, but I have said that Mother Nature would be the closest thing in my life to any god, and still stand by that. Many of my drawings in the last few years have depicted a person physically connected to/being one with the earth or cosmos, literally. Like a woman with her feet planted in the earth in a rootlike structure, and tree limbs for arms and a head, or a man's face made of space nebulas.
I've been having a lot of fun being involved in the art scene in the areas around my hometown, and I hope to continue this journey with all of you in the best way possible.
