It's Groundhog Day

It's Groundhog Day A Festivus for the rest of us! We continue the tradition of a mid winters celebration revolving around everyone's favorite holiday.

For hundreds of years, people on this planet have rejoiced in the return of the sun and its warmth this time of the year. The ancient celebration of Candlemas has evolved into modern culture as Groundhog Day and we embrace it as a non-religious excuse to gather around fire and ice to toast the promise of the warmer weather that that we all long for. A true Festivus for the Rest of Us!

Sorry Folks, the Groundhog Day Party is closed again this year. The moose out front should have told ya.

Our Groundhog may still make a prognostication this year if we can wake him up from his slumber, keep your eyes peeled.

We promise to be back and bigger than ever next year to celebrate. In the meantime, we sincerely hope everyone has a terrific day no matter where you are or how much snow you have!

Happy Solstice to All!

As we welcome back the sun, we are thinking about how to best celebrate Groundhog Day this February. As many of you know, the Ummels have packed up the party and moved to a new house in Mt Holly. We are still unboxing and haven't quite found the crate with all the twinkle lights yet, but we are moving ahead with plans to party. Things will be a little scaled down this year due to the move, but we will have plenty of drink, fire and food. There is a really nice sledding hill right in front of the house thats just begging for some night time action.

Its gonna be a potluck this year, so whip up your favorite appetizers, entrees or dessert to share. We will open the gates at 6pm and hope to wake our new mascot Mount Holly Harry for a prediction after we eat and drink a bit.
The 50/50 raffle seemed to be fun last time around so bring some cash if you're feeling lucky. As always, it is an outdoor party in the middle of a Vermont Winter so dress like you have a brain. The more the merrier, so if you have any other friends or family that might enjoy being out in the elements, bring em! There will be several fires to help warm your toes and the schnapps will help a lot. Most of our beds are all ready spoken for, but we have a ton of open floor space for sleeping bags for those of wishing to stay over. Please let us know it you might want to camp out.

Thank you to all of our intrepid party goers for braving the crazy elements in Proctor last night! Heavy snow, sleet, rain, thunder, lightening - who would have guessed. We hope you had as much fun as we did! If you have any pictures of the evening, please upload them to our album Groundhog Day 2011.

Proctor Pete sees the snow outside and is concerned for all of your safety! Due to the heavy snow, we've decided to discourage anybody from taking unnecessary chances on the roads. The event is not canceled, but everybody's safety is foremost. We will still hold the party outside so be prepared for the weather. Thanks all! And if we don't see you tonight, we'll see you at the next groundhog event! J & Nikki
