There are a million thank you’s to still be said for our sponsors, volunteers, competitiors, etc- but first I think two people need to be recognized for investing the most into this event, yet humbly flying under the radar: Derek Strine and Mary Fike
It was casually suggested to Derek Strine to run a classic format three day event at his facility “one day” just 6 months ago. He jumped on the idea, contacted the best people, and has been incredibly generous to make this event possible for all of us. He invested a significant amount of time and money into land that wasn’t his own to ensure the best going for roads and tracks and steeplechase. Barnstaple is a lovely venue with so much potential that is an asset to the Ocala area and beyond- and it was all dreamt of by Derek Strine.
Mary was on board from day one. She brought decades of expertise of the classic format, plus a drive for excellence, to make this inaugural event run smoothly. Her unflappable, tactful, and positive nature reinforced her reputation, and she was able to meet the multifaceted needs of the event, facility, staff, professionals, and competitors without missing a beat.
The eventing community would be nowhere without gracious landowners committed to the development of future horses and riders, and knowledgeable event organizers dedicated to facilitating events that are both successful and educational.
So, thank you, Derek Strine and Mary Fike, for all you both have done for this event, and future events. I think I can speak on behalf of all involved that we are looking forward to next year.
