Not all variables are created equal. Y is a function of X.

In any resort operation, dozens of factors influence the guest experience, but only a few truly drive it. In Lean Six Sigma, we call these the critical X’s: the inputs that have the greatest impact on your desired outcome.

When looking to improve process, start by identifying which levers matter most. What are the critical X’s. Because when you focus on the right X’s, even small changes can deliver outsized results: shorter wait times, smoother flow, and more time for guests to do what they came for… enjoying the mountain.

Sometimes you don’t need more space, you just need a better process. Getting boots on guest’s feet is the constraint of any rental process. It also has the highest amount of variability in terms of time it takes to complete and the quality of the output. And as Jack Welch so famously said “Variation is Evil”

The Boot Bridge is a high-PCE tool to improve the flow of your rental shop. Not only does it streamline the time it takes to get people in boots, it also reduces the space needed to operate and provides a high-touch moment of guest experience for your rental guests.

This is just one of the many tools we use when working with our partner ski areas to help them reimagine the processes that drive their guest experience.

Thank you for your more than 50 years of service to the guests and team at Karen. Congratulations on your retirement. We are so glad that we were able to be there to celebrate you last evening. The mountain won’t be the same without you there, but we’re happy to know that your legacy will live on through all that you have inspired and all that walk through the doors of the Karen Dolan Learning Center. You followed your passion and were never afraid to take a chance, embrace change and push forward for what was best and possible. You are an inspiration to us all and another reason why Cranmore holds a special place in the history and legacy of our industry.
