A scandal. A sensation. Based on a true story stranger than fiction.

Join bestselling author Christina Baker Kline on Monday, May 11 for a special early launch event celebrating her new novel 'The Foursome', in conversation with Montclair author and professor Alice Elliott Dark.

Inspired by the astonishing true story of two sisters in 19th-century North Carolina — Christina’s own distant relatives — who married world-famous conjoined twins from Siam, 'The Foursome' brings a forgotten chapter of American history vividly to life.

Presented by the Montclair Literary Festival and Montclair Public Library’s Open Book Open Mind, tickets to hear Christina cost $35 and include a copy of the book. Christina will be signing books after the talk. Tickets available now bit.ly/MLF-Four [link in bio].

One of our final events of the day tomorrow - and absolutely one you won’t want to miss.

DAYS OF LOVE AND RAGE

Pulitzer and National Book Award finalist Anand Gopal discusses 'Days of Love and Rage', his sweeping and deeply human account of six Syrians fighting to build a more democratic future amid war, upheaval, and authoritarianism.

Epic in scope yet intimate in detail, the book illuminates not only one devastating conflict, but the enduring human struggle for dignity, freedom, and hope.

Anand will be in conversation with Zain E. Asher, CNN International anchor, tomorrow - Saturday, May 9 at 4:15pm at Montclair State University.

ENDURING LOVE

Two acclaimed writers reflect on love, loss, friendship, and the enduring bonds that shape a life.

Siri Hustvedt’s 'Ghost Stories', written after the death of her novelist husband Paul Auster, is both an elegy and a reckoning. In 'The Flower Bearers', Rachel Eliza Griffiths traces the intertwined stories of marriage, friendship, and survival following the knife attack on her husband Salman Rushdie, capturing both the beauty and vulnerability of loving deeply.

The conversation will be moderated by Montclair author Benilde Little, author of 'Welcome to My Breakdown'.

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, May 9 at 3:00pm on the Montclair State University campus for this moving and deeply personal discussion.

Coming to see Xochitl Gonzalez tomorrow at 12:30pm? Stay for another unforgettable conversation by two Latina authors at 3:00pm – Spiralling Toward Freedom.

Debut novelists Jaquira Díaz ('This Is the Only Kingdom') and Natalie Guerrero ('My Train Leaves at Three') discuss writing bold, emotionally rich stories about characters searching for freedom, belonging, and authentic lives of their own making.

Their novels grapple with grief, rage, resilience, and the complicated pull of the communities that shape us.

This panel, moderated by Cleyvis Natera, author of 'The Grand Paloma Resort', will be held at 3pm at Montclair State University. Hope to see you there!

AI: ASKING THE BIG QUESTIONS

What happens when the line between human and machine begins to blur?

Join Dr Fatma Mili, Interim Provost of Montclair State University, in conversation with author and educator Mark Peres about 'The Accord' - a thought-provoking novel exploring the future of human-AI relationships through the lens of a gripping near-future thriller.

Blending philosophical depth with urgent questions about empathy, consciousness, and what it means to care for another being, 'The Accord' imagines a world where humanity must reconsider its relationship with intelligent machines.
