As we look over our festival budget and what it cost to put on Barbès in the Woods at this year, we’re keenly aware that it would not have been possible without the support of the Mass Cultural Council’s Festivals Grant — THANK YOU! Check out all the work they’re doing on behalf of the arts throughout the state at massculturalcouncil.org . Additional thanks to festival friend who helped us write the grant and submit it 🙏

A special thanks to our friends at .co for supporting this year’s edition of Barbès in the Woods. They’re Sheffield’s premiere source for expertly grown and curated cannabis and they really went the extra mile to support the cultural event that went down in their town. 🙏 Give ‘em a follow and stop in to their shop next time you’re in the area!

Well— we’re still unpacking from the weekend and have so much more to share with you — but we wanted to chime in just now with a heart-felt thank you to everyone: the artists, the crew, the volunteers; our sponsors; the amazing team at Race Brook Lodge; and of course the absolutely incredible audience that pulled up to make this Fall edition of Barbès in the Woods come to life this past weekend.

We know there was plenty of head-scratching when we announced theNovember dates, and in the very farthest corner of our western MA kingdom — but you trusted us! And came, and danced, and tranced, and vibed. Folks came out from all over New England and the mid-Atlantic, from Quebec and even Ohio and Georgia. There were over fourteen hours of back-to-back performances just on the sold out Saturday main event. And even a region-wide power outage didn’t stop us — special shouts to and for pushing through acoustically when the lights went out. ❤️

We’ll be back after the Thanksgiving break to share some highlights and thank our artists and sponsors individually. For now, just a big group hug, fist bump, crowd holler, thank you.

Oh hey, and give our group of presenters a follow:

✨ puts on gorgeous concerts in the barn all the time, and usually runs promotions for their rooms if you’d like to see some music and stay overnight

✨ runs a community-supported music series in the Northampton area — and will be back at Race Brook on Mar 7-8 for their 2nd annual Almost Spring Weekender (the event that happened this March led us to moving the festival here)

✨ .live just launched a new venue space in Holyoke, MA called

✨ , the inspo for this festival, exists in Park Slope Brooklyn and has one of the busiest and most varied music calendars on the planet, frankly

Good morning! What a wild and wonderful weekend we’ve had together. The third and final day of the festival is upon us, filled with some mellow take it slow Sunday treats and a joyful send-off cumbia session:

✨Garth Stevenson takes folks up into the woods for a second round of musical meditation with his 150-year old double bass, speaker relay, and electronics. Meet at the barn at 1PM.

✨ .sounds brings Ethiopiques-inspired violin jams to the porch stage at 1:30PM.

✨ The all-woman Colombian bullerengue drum collective from Brooklyn call up the ancestors in the barn at 3:00PM.

✨ finds the pocket between “bolero” music (Latin American love ballads) and soul and funk. Unmissable. Porch stage at 4:15PM.

✨ We close out our little residency at with marimba cumbia punk phenoms — a band of brothers from Mexico City that sort of always defies your expectations. You think it’s going to be cool, and then suddenly your face melts off. 5:30PM barn stage.

Tickets are not sold out for today — you can get them at the door! See you out there fam xo 😘✨❤️

Important announcement! plays at 5:15pm today in the Barn (earlier), while plays later in the Porch stage at 8:30pm. Honestly, you don’t want to miss either of them.

We’ve been getting this question a bit. And no, it’s not. 95% of the music is happening indoors — in a heated barn, and a heated sun room in a heated lodge. We think it will get quite hot with all of you, actually. There is a brisk walk between stages, as they are in different buildings: a few minutes if you go quick, or much longer if you want to stop at a fire pit , or take in the stars, or have a drink at the outdoor bar. We encourage you to meander.

The point is, this festival is not outdoors. But it does take after another off-season festival we love called in NYC — when it’s very cold outside and the music is in different locations, and you go from hot + crowded to cold + spacious and back to hot + crowded.

It’s kind of fun. We think you’ll like it.

WHAAAATS UP FRIDAY grid for Barbès in the Woods dropping — ONE WEEK OUT — and — center stage — we are warming it up with quite honestly the most iconic Barbès band ever. Slavic Soul Party has played approximately 1,075 times in the Park Slope bar… a Tuesday residency that spans over twenty years, many iterations of bandmembers, countless euphoric dances parties, probable love affairs and breakups, and an unknown quantity of liver transplants.

But this is their FIRST time playing the sumptuous, cozy, earthy rustic barn at Race Brook. They’re doing it Tuesday Barbès style — three sets with short breaks — and celebrating the release of their new EP EXTENDED PLAY. (And yes, it will be on sale that night!)

Over at the Porch Stage (OK, it’s actually a Sun Room, and its indoors) — a new project called SNACKY features Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), Erica Mancini (Gogol Bo****lo), Sam Harman (La Banda Chuska), Quince Marcum (Greek Judas), and Steve La Rosa … breaking out of NYC for the first time ever to bring you something that you’ve surely never heard before— a noise fuzz taishogoto quintet.

BOMBO BOX hits later (Erica Mancini and Pedro Erazo of Gogol Bo****lo) with a post-tropical cumbia front. The Social Club downstairs starts up with DJs at 10PM and goes late with LOS CASSETEROS, a cassette-jockeyed set of music for your dancing pleasure.
