Back in 2018, this weekend, we threw a jazz festival FOR John Patterson. In his honor. John always did the planning and I did the art and we both put it all togeteher. This time is was just me. I changed the name and made his signature prominent on the last and only shirts for the festival. His death months prior made crucial to be a success. And one last time, the same amazing sponsors gathered to celebrate for John. The next year, the sponsors left and we had a few new ones and the fans contributed. The second weekend in August was always a time we worked on for the 8 months prior. It was a family affair and a free festival. And there was nothing but heat, wine and Jazz. Remembering our time with Chuck Mangione who took the stage 21 years ago. He belted out “Feels So Good” to a sea of jazz lovers. Chuck died today at 84.

Today is the day for Gratitude. Nelson Rangell’s brand new single. Inspired by and written for a dear friend who grew up just outside of Detroit who has been battling a brain tumor for some time now. One who has seen and knows the struggle of cancer yet still is full of gratitude every day. Nelson wrote this to uplift anyone going through the low times in life. We think it is one of his best. Happy Birthday John Patterson. Our dreamer. Our producer and organizer. This is the second weekend in August and always the weekend of your jazz festival. It’s a beautiful weekend and you would be watching the weather and yelling “This is Awesome” at the screen. The unbridled joy you brought the community with this event is a great part of your legacy. And I miss you very much.

The first of the 3 times it rained came when Earl Klugh was about to go on stage. It drizzled for about 20 minutes and then the skies cleared. Oh, and did you see Larry Carlton play?

Rick Braun and David Benoit tore up the stage in 2006. The first time we had a baby grand on the stage. Joe McBride, Randy Scott and the late Nick Colionne rounded out the headliners.
