Did you know that textiles were an expensive commodity during the Renaissance?

Cloth went through a cycle of uses, with nothing being discarded from garment to garment then being used as rags and finally into paper. Our ancestors practiced sustainability out of necessity; buying new clothing was a luxury reserved only for upper echelons of society.

But we're taking a page out of that book and going back to our roots.The Missoula Renaissance Festival is on a mission to decorate the festival without using any new materials, or at least as little as possible.

While this method is undeniably more labor-intensive, it allows us to keep huge amounts of textile waste out of our landfills while also allocating the money for decor to local sources.

Pictured below: we scored a pickup truck load full of fabric remnants that were taking up space in a garage. Most of these rolls are not useful for commercial purposes anymore, but they're perfect for our projects!
