Minneapolis Earth Day Clean Up

Minneapolis Earth Day Clean Up Earth Day Cleanup is held at several sites throughout the City of Minneapolis.

It is a collaborative effort between the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and City of Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling.

04/16/2025

The Minneapolis Earth Day Cleanup is THIS SATURDAY, April 19, 9:30 am-12 pm!

There are 42 sites scattered across the city’s park system. No need to register, just choose a site that works for you and show up at 9:30 am on Saturday.

Park staff or volunteers will provide bags and gloves at all Earth Day sites and City of Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling will properly dispose of all collected materials.

Thank you to 2025 Minneapolis Earth Day Cleanup sponsors Owens Corning, CurbSide Landscape & Irrigation and Hero Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical!

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear? What do I need to bring?
Wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Expect to walk on grass or uneven surfaces and to bend down to pick up debris. Bags and gloves will be provided. Be sure to bring water, snacks, and any other personal items you might need.

Where should I park?
Parking at MPRB meters and lots will not be enforced until 1 pm on Saturday, April 19. Just ensure you’re parked at an MPRB location. A map is linked on the Earth Day website: minneapolisearthday.com.

Are kids welcome?
Absolutely! We do ask that children are accompanied by an adult.

What if we find heavy or sharp objects?
Please do not touch any heavy, sharp, or potentially hazardous items. Each site coordinator will provide specific instructions, but we ask that volunteers take a picture of the item and note the location. Site coordinators will help you submit this information to MPRB staff, who will address the issue.

Do we need to stay for the entire event?
You are welcome to volunteer for any amount of time that fits your schedule. We appreciate any time you can dedicate to the cleanup and are grateful for your help!

What if we want to clean up but can't participate in the event this year?
If you’re in the City of Minneapolis and want to host your own cleanup at any time of the year, the City of Minneapolis can help connect you with information and supplies. Visit minneapolisearthday.com for a link with more information.

We're beginning to get groups and volunteers interested to know park locations. Here is a list of confirmed clean-up sites for 2024. Please check back in a few weeks for the site map and final list of clean-up sites, as we're still confirming a few additional parks.

Wow! Awesome!!

Thank you to the many volunteers who participated in our 2023 Earth Day cleanup! Despite the chilly weather, we had over 100 people in the park bagging trash and recycling that is often found on the grounds after the snow melts.
We also had our Hennepin County Master Gardeners here sharing their knowledge (and their free seeds!) that can be used during the gardening season that we're all looking forward to. Thank you, everyone! We'll see you again at the park!
