We’re only 1 day out from the Minneapolis Kite Festival! Attached is a map pointing out traffic closure points and accessibility routes for those needing ADA-accessible parking on Saturday. There will be road closures going into effect at 12:00pm, however, there are 2 access points for vehicles needing accessible parking at the Bandshell noted on the map.

All other event attendees are encouraged to park at the Executive Building parking lot on the West side of Bde Maka Ska (3033 Excelsior Blvd) and ride the free shuttle to the event.

We're looking forward to seeing you on Saturday (12:00-4:00pm)! Here's a lay of the land. We'll have activities on shore (firepits, s'mores provided by Linden Hills Neighborhood Council, kites sales provided by East Harriet Neighborhood Association - EHNA, hands-on activities provided by Minneapolis Institute of Art and Girl Scouts River Valleys, outdoor games, food/beverage trucks, and a kids DJ) as well as kite flying on ice and an opportunity to visit Art Shanty Projects.

Ice/Weather Safety Update:
We have good news - the Lake Harriet ice thickness is holding up through the recent warmer weather, however, there is very little snow cover on the ice to provide traction like in past years' events. Much of the surface of the lake is icy, wet, and slippery.

Additionally, the warmer weather and lack of snow cover has left some areas muddy, please plan ahead with proper footwear.

We hope you'll consider wearing ice cleats/snow grippers or boots/shoes with abrasive soles for additional traction.

Remember when you're on ice it's safest to walk like a penguin – short shuffling steps with feet shoulder-width apart while keeping your hands out of your pockets.
