There's still time to explore the virtual Homes by Architects Tour! Access will close Sunday, October 4. Explore three architect-designed homes only available to see online, including Home 2 “Shell Lake Cabin,” designed by Twelve12 Architecture + Interior Design plus view an extensive photo gallery and a video of the lead architect speaking about the home.

This year, the virtual tour features:
• 3D, interactive tour of Homes 1, 2, and 3
• Video content of Homes 1 and 2, including an architect interview and a guided narrated digital tour
• Guided annotated tour of Home 3
• Photo galleries of all 12 tour homes

The home’s modest footprint supports the client’s preference for compact living and underscores the project’s commitment to sustainability and universal design. Beyond aesthetics, the home exemplifies regenerative design through its alignment with the Living Building Challenge’s CORE Green certification. Materials were vetted for health and sustainability, and innovative systems like rainwater harvesting, solar panels, and an energy recovery ventilator work together to minimize the home’s environmental impact while enhancing comfort and performance.

The home’s compact footprint and high-performance triple-pane glazing create an efficient envelope that balances energy use with carefully framed views. Radiant in-floor heating and efficient mechanical systems complement passive strategies to maintain comfort year-round.Inside, a restrained palette of recycled basswood, gypsum, and reclaimed flooring creates a calm, tactile environment that defers to the surrounding forest and lake, an atmosphere perfectly suited to creative contemplation. The virtual Homes by Architects Tour is live now through Sunday, October 4. Explore three architect-designed homes only available to see online, including Home 3 “Lake Minnetonka Island Cottage,” designed by Albertsson Hansen Architecture and Interior Design.

On a roadless island in Lake Minnetonka, this family retreat makes room for generations to gather while fitting into a historic community of modest homes. Its H-shaped design connects shared living spaces to both the lake and a courtyard, with modest bedrooms, built-in guest beds, and plenty of room for the gear that comes with lake life. Warm and memorable spaces rooted in craftsmanship, proportion, and connection to place support family gatherings and the informal rhythms of lake life.
