Louie's Last Regatta is an open-to-all, year-end, fun-oriented annual sailing regatta on Lake Michigan in which all proceeds benefit Children's Wisconsin. Founded in 1999 by a group of Milwaukee sailors, Louie's Last Regatta has grown into one of the nation's largest fundraising regattas.

Here’s something truly unique about Louie’s, your boat is its own division! You finish, you win it, and there’s a flag waiting for you back at the club.

Doesn’t matter what you sail or how fast you get around. Lasers, cruisers, whatever you’ve got in the water. Everybody starts together and everybody goes home with something.

Louie's Last Regatta has been sailing off Milwaukee since 1999. That first year it was 29 boats and $619. This September it goes for the 28th time, and between now and then you're going to hear about it on the radio.

105.7 FM/1250 AM The Fan and the Wisconsin Sports Radio Network are carrying Louie's from now through race day, September 26.

Here's what it is. Any boat can enter, no club membership and no PHRF certificate required. You race a beer can course on Milwaukee Bay, then everybody ties up at South Shore Yacht Club for the party and the awards. Every dollar goes to Children's Wisconsin, and the total since 1999 is over $1.79 million.

Boats register at www.louieslastregatta.org. Not sailing? The party runs 3 to 7 and it's open to anyone, no cover, no ticket.

You don't need a club membership or a certificate. If your boat can get around a course, you're in, and every finisher wins its class. It started in 1999 with 29 boats and a $619 bar tab for the kids at Children's Wisconsin. We never looked back.
