What’s up with the Big Lick 200? We asked Alex Land , who's taken on the Big Lick more than once as well as many more ultras, why he's coming back…
"unPAved of the Susquehanna River Valley is a fantastic event. It's well organized, and the gravel is excellent. They host many distance options from 40 to 200 miles. The Big Lick is 200 miles of fun through the hills of Pennsylvania.
"The ride starts in the afternoon. You get a few hours before the sun sets and the majority of the ride will be through the night. The darkness adds an extra challenge. The hills are tough on the way up, and with limited visibility they are fun on the way down. The route features lots of gravel of all types, smooth, chunky, loose, and even a little trail. There are some tough sections, and some fast sections. It's all fun.
"I like riding the Big Lick because it's hard, and doing hard things is fun. The route is excellent, and the ride is well run. You get a whoopie pie at the finish line, what more could you want?"
If you’re ready to race through the night, or “ultra-curious” and could use the support your first time, apply now because the deadline to let us know if you’re up for it is Wednesday, 9/23.
