I am honored to have represented Middletown Art Center / EcoArts of Lake County and all of the work we have been doing in Lake County that is part of our local creative economy!

Thanks to the California Arts Council, Lake Lake County Arts Council, Shasta County Arts Council and all of the artists ad community members who participated on Jan 20 at the Soper Reese Theatre. Big Thanks to Barbara Clark for all of her work behind the scenes and on stage during the event and to Soper Reese support Staff. Barbara, you rock! We are so lucky to have you heading the Arts Council's work!

In the image below are panelists Ron Montez, Lisa Kaplan, John Tomlinson, Batsulwin Brown, Sam Euston, and John Parkinson. Lake County Poet Laureate Brenda Yeager shared moving poetry about the healing, uniting, and overarching power of the arts to enrich and empower people's lives, Nicole Flora from the Lake county Lake County Economic Development Corporation and Lake County Chamber of Commerce shared about the intersection of the arts and business and ways where data and partnerships can unite to further support our local creative economy.

Nancy Hill of Shasta County Arts Council and Megan Morgan, Race and Equity Manager at the California Arts Council (CAC) spoke about the purpose of the Town Halls across the state, facilitated interactive activities, and outlined the CAC's strategic plan for bolstering Californias Creative Sector. Thank you for getting to know us and hearing about our experience here.

If you missed it, you can watch the recorded Facebook live stream. https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?mibextid=qi2Omg&ref=watch_permalink&v=1167749465348173

We particularly wanted to smile about how Lisa looks like she is singing while she is talking about MAC's work! : )

Today, we pause to remember and recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream for his children, and all children, that one day we will “live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” We also honor his vision for freedom of our voices. Freedom of our bodies. Freedom of how we gather, create, and care for one another.
The arts are a form of freedom, and freedom of expression. We like to create space for our community members, to feel and be free to express themselves in the visual arts, music, song, and dance.

Thank you to everyone who showed up with your bodies, your laughter, your moves, and your courage to dance like no one was watching on Friday, January 16. Thank you for turning the room into a living, breathing circle of community! Events like this remind us why dance matters, why the arts matter, and why being together matters. Here's to you, and more to come!
