The U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. EPA, the California Ins Department of Energy (DOE).

The Aeroseal duct work sealing system was invented in 1994 by Dr. Mark Modera, a scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, a campus of the University of California in Berkeley. The Aeroseal process won the "Best of What's New" award from Popular Science magazine, and the "Energy 100" award from the U.S. The DOE also rated the Aeroseal duct sealing process as one of the 23 most beneficial technologies available to American consumers that has come out since the agency was created. The Aeroseal air duct sealing system used a simple two-step process: diagnose and seal.

"We are absolutely continuing to specify AeroBarrier on all our projects."

That's Christine West, AIA, Principal and Co-owner at KITE Architects, speaking from Summer Street Apartments in Rhode Island, a LIHTC development and a net-zero energy building sealed with AeroBarrier.

AeroBarrier delivers airtightness across the envelope, party walls, and corridor walls which reduces energy loss, protects indoor air quality, and helps resist smoke and pest infiltration.

Performance Proven. Customer Recommended.

Most home HVAC systems are designed, selected, installed, and never verified.
Jim Bergmann has a line for that: “I don’t believe in heat pumps. I verify them.”

In Episode 4 of Building Performance, Unlocked, host Ross MacPherson sits down with Jim, founder of measureQuick and co-founder of TruTech Tools, to talk about the gap between the system on paper and the one running in the house. They get into why every installed system is unique, why lab-grade measurement is now possible in the field, what an uncommissioned system costs a homeowner in comfort and utility bills, and why contractors who measure find the root cause faster and get called back less.

A practical conversation for all HVAC contractors. Watch or listen now:

Jim Bergmann, Founder and President of measureQuick and long-standing HVAC industry educator, knows first-hand just how important measurable results can be when selling IAQ to homeowners.

Being able to back the comfort they feel with real data, in real time, gives homeowners the confidence that they've made the right investment. That's why we partner with HVAC dealers all over the world to bring verified duct sealing to their customers.

We recently sealed the duct work at Jim's new home and measured an 80% increase in airflow across the first and second floor, without any static pressure change in the system.

"Moving from a house that was Aerosealed to a house that wasn't Aerosealed, we immediately started feeling a big difference in the comfort level of the house. I've always been a big believer in the product because of the measurable results."

Missing an ACH target doesn't just mean delays and rework, it puts an entire project's funding at risk.

Jerry Dunn, Superintendent at Mosites Construction and Development Company, on the peace of mind that comes with using AeroBarrier to meet strict airtightness requirements:

"It creates a comfort moving forward, being as low as we are in the readings, there is room moving forward that we will still stay way beyond our numbers."

Most of the buildings we’ll be using in 2050 are already standing today. That makes existing buildings the biggest opportunity we have to improve building performance.

In Episode 03 of Aeroseal's Building Performance, Unlocked, we sit down with Kelly Westby of Steven Winter Associates for a conversation called “The Retrofit Imperative”, and get honest about where retrofits genuinely get hard, where the good-ROI wins actually are, and why “the most sustainable building is the one that already exists” is mostly, but not always, true.

It’s a practical, myth-busting conversation for anyone who owns, operates, engineers, or regulates existing buildings.

With the use of AeroBarrier, Trim Tab achieved airtightness levels required for ENERGY STAR certification and net-zero energy performance during a recent townhome retrofit project. With no displacement and no gut renovation.

Tom Grochmal, PhD, PEng, CEO of Trim Tab, on how AeroBarrier fits into their mission to renew housing and inspire better living:

"We use AeroBarrier as the final step in our air sealing process because it allows us to take our envelope retrofits to a higher level of performance and quality."

Every builder knows the building code. Few talk about what happens when you build above it.

Gord Cooke of Construction Instruction joins Episode 02 of Building Performance, Unlocked: "Code Is the Floor, Not the Ceiling".

This episode gets into the real gap between what code requires and what building science actually supports: why “three air changes per hour” is a floor and not a finish line, why walls needing to “breathe” isn’t quite accurate, and how balancing the systems of a home while controlling the envelope delivers better comfort, air quality, and resilience, from wildfire smoke to power outages.

The Alliance to Save Energy has recognized Aeroseal as the recipient of its Built Environment Award at the Stars of Energy Efficiency Awards Gala.

This award honors organizations advancing energy efficiency across buildings through innovative technologies and practices that deliver measurable performance improvements.

Air leakage is one of the most overlooked drivers of poor building performance. Controlling the air allows for healthier, more comfortable, higher-performing buildings.

Special thanks to the Alliance to Save Energy for the recognition, and to the Aeroseal team who makes this work possible every day.

The Aeroseal team recently teamed up with Taylor Morrison in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for a day of training focused on AeroBarrier installation.

The demo performed on a 2,704 sq ft home delivered meaningful, measurable results:
📉 93.6% total reduction in envelope leakage
🔵 4.79 ACH50 → 0.31 ACH50
⏱️ Seal Time: 1 hour and 18 minutes

This type of performance enables builders like Taylor Morrison to continue delivering high-quality homes within tight schedules at scale. Their commitment to quality and performance creates a powerful partnership.

A special thank you to the Aeroseal Demo Team and the Taylor Morrison team for their time, energy, and enthusiasm.
