Miami Dade College is proud to share an update as we prepare to assume responsibility for the Tower Theater on November 1. The theater will be managed by Miami Film Festival, as part of MDC’s Cultural Affairs department.

Over the past several weeks, MDC has been working closely with the City of Miami to ensure a smooth transition and to prepare the Tower Theater to once again provide the high-quality experience our community expects and deserves.

Maria (Saoirse Ronan), a primary school teacher doing her best to inspire a class of 10-year-olds, is stifled by one unruly and chaotic student. With her career on the line and the child’s behavior spiraling out of control, Maria makes a series of increasingly bad decisions that lead to her accidentally locking them inside her home.

Desperate to backtrack, Maria finds herself in a very complicated predicament as the class begins to flourish and the staff and parents are thrilled with the improvement.

We're so excited to announce the three winners of the inaugural Miami Film Fund, created in partnership with ArtesMiami!

This first year, we're awarding a combined $15K to filmmakers with ties to Miami. The three grants of $5K each have been awarded to films currently in production or post-production and will be screened as part of the Miami Film Festival upon completion. The winning projects span documentary and narrative filmmaking, reflecting stories of immigrant resilience, cultural identity, and the shifting landscape of Miami itself.

Ramón Rivera Moret’s compelling archival documentary, Todo parecía posible (Everything Seemed Possible), revisits a utopian chapter in Puerto Rico’s history through dozens of short films made in rural communities from the late 1940s to the 1960s. Rivera Moret explores a visionary chapter in Puerto Rico’s history through the lens of the Division of Community Education’s ground-breaking film unit.
