Every year, the International Ballet Festival of Miami proudly presents “Criticism and Culture of Ballet,” a distinguished program honoring some of the most influential national and international dance critics who have shaped the discourse of ballet around the world. Since its inception, this recognition has celebrated voices of excellence, including:
Clive Barnes (New York Times, 2007), Roger Salas (El País, Spain, 2008), Anna Kisselgoff (New York Times, 2009), Erik Aschengreen (Denmark, 2010), Alfio Agostini (Balletto 2000, 2011), René Sirvin (Le Figaro, France, 2012), Clement Crisp (Financial Times, London, 2013), Orlando Taquechel (Miami Herald / ArtBurst Miami, 2014), Jean Pierre Pastori (Switzerland, 2015), Patricia Aulestia (Ecuador News, Mexico, 2016), Jennifer Stahl (Dance Magazine, 2018), Sarah L. Kaufman (The Washington Post, 2019), Baltasar Santiago Martín (Caritate Magazine, 2021), Rocío Rabaza Rivacoba (DanzaDance, Mexico, 2022), Rosario Manzanos (Danza Excélsior, Mexico, 2023), Perfecto Uriel (Danza en Escena, Spain, 2024), and Robert Johnson (The Dance Enthusiast / NJArts.net, 2025).
Through this initiative, the Festival recognizes the essential role of criticism in preserving, elevating, and advancing the art of ballet across generations.
