We bet many Meyersdale area residents ventured out back then to see all Murphy’s had to offer - even if it was as cold and blustery as today!

Ninety years ago today, Meyersdale's G.C. Murphy Co. opened its doors for business! Just imagine how excited our town's residents must have been to have a brand new department store in the heart of their community just in time for their holiday shopping? This full-page advertisement drew them in with its bargain prices and descriptive text promising as follows ...

"You will be amazed when you walk through the doors of this new store. You will marvel at the size of the well lighted and conveniently appointed sales-room. You will open your eyes in astonishment when you see the mountains of Brand New Winter and Christmas Merchandise at such ridiculously LOW PRICES!"
