🍂WHAT RECOVERY LOOKS LIKE featuring Vicki W.🍂

Recovery looks different for everyone, but every story is a testament to hope and God's faithfulness. Meet Vicki West, the first woman we're featuring during National Recovery Month. Vicki is in her 8th month with Humble House, with 7 of those months in our recovery program, and she has recently taken the next step by moving into the transitional phase of her journey.

In her own words, Vicki shares a glimpse of her story: where she was, what changed, and the one word that best describes what her life looks like now because of Christ and recovery. Stay tuned—later this week, we will share a short clip of her testimony. Please follow our page for more stories of transformation.

**THIS IS WHAT RECOVERY LOOKS LIKE:**

"My name is Vicki West and I'm originally from Virginia. I moved to Panama City Beach when I was 19 and I now have 3 adult children. I came to Humble House because I was an alcoholic most of my life. I was married for 16 years to an alcoholic who was also struggling. When I lost that relationship, I spiraled out of control, and that's when drugs came into play.

I was in a self-loathing phase of my life. I didn't want to get out of bed. The sun would come up and I would just pull the covers back over my head and think, God, if this is how my life is going to be, just take me out. I didn't want to live anymore. I was battling depression and anxiety and shutting everyone off emotionally.

I've tried numerous times on my own to get better and make it through life on my own. While in jail, I met Rachel from Humble House, and shortly after, I was released. Still trying to make it on my own, I went back to the same old ways. I cried out to God for help, and He brought Rachel and Humble House back to my memory. That's when I reached out for help.

My favorite part of Humble House is the classes. The teachers really pour their time and love into us, and it opened my eyes to a lot of things. The classes teach me how to apply the things I'm learning to my life.

Having Christ in my life has changed everything. I now wake up not hating the sunrise. I wake up and say, 'Good morning God,' and start my conversation with Him. Having Him help me throughout the day and the little nudges He gives me, encouraging me to keep going, has meant everything to me. That's gotten me through the hard parts of the program when I was missing my family and children and mourning those relationships.

God would tell me, It's okay, you're doing this for them. They're going to see a new you, and hopefully you're going to bring them to Him. It's one of my goals—I want all of my family members to be saved.

Christ has given me hope for my future. I am now excited to go out and share the good news and what He has done for me. I have peace in my soul. I have joy. I can laugh and be happy in the moment without all the worry and anxiety I was riddled with before. As long as I put my faith in Him and am obedient, He's going to get me through whatever I need.

My one word to describe what my life feels like today because of Christ and my recovery is **VICTORIOUS**—because I have overcome and conquered so many things. Throughout my life, God has gotten me through so much that I didn't realize He was using to bring me where I am now. And for that, I'm victorious!"

Helping someone get back outdoors, experience freedom, and create unforgettable memories with their family—that’s what it’s all about.

This weekend, my buddy Hunter got out there with his family and absolutely put the smack down on them! 💪🦌

It’s not just about the hunt. It’s about the memories, the independence, and having the opportunity to experience the outdoors together.

Way to go, Hunter! Keep making those memories! 💪🔥
