Hundreds of people gathered in Tailevu on Thursday to honour the life of the country's former deputy prime minister and academic who died on Sunday, aged 82.

Nothing could be worse than the last couple weeks, watching my love Pita Kotobalavu pass on from cancer. He has been the star of my heart and the ying to my yang since 2010. Our life together was private compared to his Unity The Band life. He asked for his death to be private too, but news inevitably travels fast. I was proud to be his partner and we had great adventures and accomplished great things together with our children. We will celebrate Pita’s life on April 21 at our son’s Fifth Ward Brewing Company. In Pita’s honor, we will
be raising funds for his favorite causes. If you would like to give to this fund, please do so at Venmo .
