Memphis, TN | March 16: The Memphis Comedy Festival Board of Directors announced today that the 2020 Memphis Comedy Festival, scheduled April 2-5, has been postponed.
The postponement is a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
MCF President Nathan Hiller said, “As citizens of Memphis, it is our duty to do everything we can to fight the spread of COVID-19. We are heartbroken to postpone, but it is the best course of action for the health and safety of all who would attend.”
MCF brings together performers from across the country. The MCF board felt it was especially irresponsible to ask comedians to take additional risk with airport travel.
“This decision was not reached lightly, but we can’t in good conscience ask our volunteers, performers, and audiences to risk their health or the health of the wider community,” said Hiller.
Performers, sponsors, and staff were informed of the postponement yesterday. Festival organizers will be in contact with all participants and audiences as updates are available. The MCF board hopes all performers will have another chance to entertain Memphis audiences at the rescheduled event.
Pre-sale tickets and passes will be honored at the rescheduled festival.
