Meet Chavela Racine, this year’s third emerging artist.

Chavela is a painter whose vibrant work focuses on memory and the questions that emerge when we begin to search for what has been forgotten.

Drawing inspiration from old family photographs, she combines different moments in time to explore hidden truths and the tension between what we know and what remains unknown. Her process mirrors memory itself, incorporating layers of paint and resin, loose brushstrokes, drips, and vague faces to create a sense of fogginess and fragmentation.

Her expressive paintings often feature children as the subject, embodying playfulness, exploration, innocence, and vulnerability.

🗓️ Save the date to see Chavela’s expressive paintings at in person at this year's festival.
