Its that time of year for this unusual plant to bloom! This is a night bloom cereus, also known as a queen of the night. It is a vine like cactus that generally likes to grow on palm trees here in Florida. Each bloom is only open for one night to display its beauty. Here we have a picture of the blooms as well as our plant on the south side of the Roesch house.

Did you know Carrie was known for so much more than her work with Standard Oil? Here we have a small write up on her other ventures around Brevard. This was written specifically about her work with Florida Institute of Technology, but highlights other areas she championed such as Brevard Arts. She felt very strongly about giving back to the community which enabled her own success.
Interested in learning more? We have tours Wednesday through Saturday at 10 AM, 12 PM, and 2 PM. Call 321 254 9855 to book a tour.

Don’t you just love how unique our local ecology is? Other people did too, especially as tourists and locals alike used to love to hunt and fish while Florida was being developed. Carrie and Ella can be seen here around the fire on a hunting trip, but look at how much growth there was around them! This picture was likely taken in the late 1920s or early 1930s in the area of West Melbourne, and it demonstrates just how much plant life people had to navigate around that allows for such a wonderful ecosystem.

Did you know that elephant ears produce flowers? Well we have some great examples! Our elephant ear in the garden is not currently blooming, but these unique pink and red flowers will likely come later this year! These elephant ears are very hardy and fast growers, with many Florida gardeners considering them a nuisance plant. We just love out ruffle leaf elephant ear! So stop by and see these blooms today!

Notice anything familiar about this picture? It’s the side porch, behind the breezeway which connects the Aspinwall and East wings of the house! We just love this side by side comparison showing the Rossetter house in use and as you can see it today.
