Talk to anyone who follows prep sports in Kansas, and McPherson & state basketball championships are usually paired in the same conversation. With 22 combined boys’ & girls’ state championships (and counting) over the past 49 years, we’ve decided it’s time to celebrate! All 22 of McPherson HS’ state championship basketball teams are being invited to come home for a celebratory 50 th Anniversary Reunion weekend in May of 2022. The All Schools Day weekend will include a chance to again ride down Main Street on a float with your championship teammates in Friday’s All Schools Day parade. There will be time to check out the old “haunts” from your days as a Bullpup as
well as tour the renovated McPherson Opera House, Community Building, Middle (formerly Junior High) and High School facilities, etc. Friday evening will be open for team gatherings and class reunions. On Saturday, we’ll all gather for brunch at the Community Building ( you won’t believe it’s the same place many of your basketball careers began, its renovation and recognition of the Globe Refiners). At the brunch, you’ll receive a commemorative history of MHS basketball and a schedule for team pictures that afternoon. We’ll wrap up the weekend by coming together on Saturday evening at McPherson High where we’ll have an evening full of celebration
including a special speaker and recognition of each of our state championship basketball teams. The reunion committee, in conjunction with supporting individuals and businesses in the McPherson community, are teaming together to make the weekend affordable for its attending championship team members (i.e., less than $30 per individual or $50 per couple which will include the commemorative book, Saturday brunch and evening celebration) plus raising funds for the (1) Jay Frazier Scholarship, (2) basketball exhibit at the McPherson Museum, and (3) additional trophy display space at MHS.
