Although we are experiencing record low snow levels, trail conditions for the 2024 Idaho Sled Dog Challenge currently appear adequate to run the race, potentially with some modification.
Checkpoints have been evaluated the past several days. They generally have 6 to 8 inches and some trail grooming is underway with about 2 feet reported on top. The long-range forecast promises some improvement with heavier snow beginning today and continuing with 1 to 3 inches several of the next 10-day reporting period and constant below freezing temperatures.
Although trail conditions are not ideal, they continue improving, especially with the current snow, and we feel very positive we will have a race. A final evaluation and formal announcement will be made on the 15th.
