Mathews Outdoor Club We are here to provide outdoor activities from workouts to races to tours! Getting outdoors should be simple and enjoyable. Ditto for physical fitness & health.

Our Mission

Founded in 2021, the Mathews Outdoor Club (501c3) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to powering outdoor activities and promoting sports tourism in Mathews County, Virginia. Combine the two and you have the Mathews Outdoor Club mission. How are we working to achieve that? By providing opportunities for area visitors and local residents to participate in outdoor activities in a large or small group or one-on-one. Our services range from competitive races to leisure tours – with two common themes: your pace and all outdoors. We are a not for profit organization. Proceeds from our activities and events will be used to promote and support outdoor fitness activities. One lofty goal of the MOC: a network of trails throughout Mathews County for biking, running, strolling, etc. Explore our site and reach out with any questions. Tax ID

Carb Load Dinner Success! 🍝🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped make tonight’s Carb Load Dinner at the Mathews Family YMCA a success in preparation for tomorrow’s Mathews Marathon. We are incredibly grateful for your time, energy, and dedication to our community.

A special thank you to Christine and the Mathews Outdoor Club for organizing the Marathon.

A little update about the Marathon awards ceremony!

Awards will be presented by members of the Mathews Elementary School (MES) Running Club under the leadership of Mrs Jennifer Doss. Also new in 2026 are these commemorative custom event mugs, hand crafted by Lynn Lyon and Laura Jones from Bay School Community Art Center. Half Marathon awards will be presented at 10am on Saturday Oct 17th at Put In Creek Pavilion; Full Marathon & Relay at 11am. You don’t want to miss this!

Fewer than one percent of people in the world will ever complete a marathon in their lifetime. Runners dedicate months of vigorous consistent training to equip their bodies to undertake the impressive 26.2 mile feat. Each year major cities around the globe from Boston to Tokyo host hundreds of thousands of athletes as they put their training to the test.

In Mathews County, however, a much smaller crowd of a couple hundred runners gather for the “World’s Flattest Marathon” each October.
