Hi Nutshell fans,

Good news: we got our conditional use permit to keep the concerts going as long as we keep cars parked on our property. Bad news: after we were awarded the permit the same neighbor who is upset about the cars in his view shared (on Facebook) a photo of one of our concerts with the Vermont State FIre Marshall and listed all the ways he feels we are violating fire code. So we are having the fire marshall come to visit but very likely we'll need to do things we can't afford to get the concerts up and running again. All it takes is one cranky neighbor, sadly. Well it was fun while it lasted. I'll let you all know if we're able to start up again. Thank you all of you who came to our shows. We loved every minute of it.

Hi Nutshell fans,

We have some unfortunate news. Our next door neighbors filed a complaint about the parking situation (even when all cars are on our property- it is a "view" issue) and we had to apply for a Conditional Use Permit and go before the Developmental Review Board. They will decide if we can continue hosting concerts or not in the next month or so. So no concerts scheduled at the present time. Keep your fingers crossed! We'll let you know when we find out.

Mark your calendars for a fabulous musical event: the Modern Grass Quintet will be performing a house concert at the Nutshell in Marshfield on Saturday May 18th at 7 pm. These three beloved sidemen join forces to deliver acoustic swing, folk, blues, bluegrass and old-time country music. Doug Reid is a highly versatile fiddler with an unmatched tone and a master of the double-stop. Jim Pitman plays the Dobro he bought in the 1970s, and having played for nearly 4 decades he knows how to navigate it. Colin McCaffrey plays his guitar and sings the classics from Hoagy Carmichael, Jimmie Rodgers, Merle Haggard, Stanley Brothers, Bob Wills and some new originals in the old style. Confident and dynamic, this trio has a lot of fun together.

Hi all,

Please join us for a night of music on Saturday June 2nd here at our home in Marshfield with Two Shoes Off, an acoustic quartet featuring George White on guitar, vocals and octave mandolin, Carter Stowell on percussion, Kate Sprout on fiddle and vocals, and yours truly on fiddle and vocals and sometimes banjo. We play mostly original music, lots of songs written by George and myself, some of which were featured on my last CD "All The Colors" which won Album of the Year by the Montpelier Times Argus in 2010. Our sound is by turns funky, high energy and, by audience report, deeply moving. If we get lucky, Ellen Cooke, percussive dancer extraordinaire, will join us on, well, her feet.
