Hot Doggett 100

Hot Doggett 100 Three different rides to choose from: The Hot Doggett 100, The Devil's Fork Metric 100 and Big Laurel Grind 50 km: http://hotdoggett100.org

We will have the same challenging 100 mile and 100 kilometer closed loop courses as last year. Our 100 mile course covers some of the most scenic and lightly traveled roads anywhere in western North Carolina. Those of you who are seeking a challenge will find it in the 9,600 feet of ascension on that course. Click on the "courses" button above to see a complete course description. For a still chal

lenging but slightly easier ride (a mere 6,500 feet of climbing), you might want to try the 100 kilometer ride. This ride covers about 64 miles and actually goes over Devil's Fork Gap and the Appalachian Trail into Tennessee for a few miles.

The Nineteenth Annual Hot Doggett is just about 2 weeks away. We are keeping a eye on the repairs to I-40 in Tennessee. If we're lucky, the work will be done before Hot Doggett which will make travel on I-40 AND I-26 much easier.

We have rest stops on each course, with the favorite energy boosters that you've come to know.

New this year for the 100 mile and 100K riders: new ride amenity: a roadside self-serve ice water chest! Riders who took advantage of this last year by dumping ice cold water over their heads and shoulders reported that the remainder went by much quicker.

This year we’ll have three locations. Those doing the Doggett Mountain Challenge (100 mi) will have two opportunities on the Tanyard Gap climb. The first will be about half way up - same as last year - the second will be a “better late than never” offering at the end of the long straightaway for those who realize that maybe they should have stopped at the first chest.

For the Devils Fork Metric (100 K) as well as the Doggett Mountain Challenge folks, the third location will be on the Sam’s Gap climb shortly after the 2 kilometer-to-go sign. Those who have done the ride will recall the kilometer before which is more open and sunnier. This location will help those who are overheating and want some relief in advance of the rest stop just past the summit.

Act now to lock in the $65 rate! Just go to Bike Reg to register

You can also register by mail (must be postmarked on or before June 30). Either way, we hope to see you there.

Special Spotlight - Registration
A Message from Peggy Barnes, Event Registration Director

I’m a long-time member of the Rotary Club and have been managing Hot Doggett Registration every year since the ride began in 2006. Over the years I have become friends with many of the riders, particularly those who return year after year. While the registration process has remained somewhat the same, I hope that the changes that we have introduced have helped to make registration more hassle-free. Whether riders are pre-registered by mail-in or on-line, or are signing-up on-site, we aim to make the early morning experience as quick and easy as possible.

My favorite part of Hot Doggett is greeting you after finishing your ride with “We’re so glad you’re BACK!” And welcoming you to our epic post-ride meal. It’s a tell-tale sign of how you’re doing if your quick come-back is “So am I!” (glad to be back) or not. I do so enjoy coming around to clear tables and chat with riders who are excited to have made it through the ride and had a chance to refuel on the delicious meal. BTW, the vegan BBQ Tofu and Asian Slaw are locally made and donated by my daughter, Miki, from her restaurant, HomeGrown Eatery in North Asheville.
