For several years, the Marion Bermuda Race has been the lead sponsor of the Northeast Ocean Race Symposium (NORS). The educational, in-person-only event is returning on March 21, 2026, to Bentley University in Waltham, MA. Registration closes March 17 (Registration and details are available at https://marionbermuda.com/NORS/index.php).

In addition to its seven educational sessions, this year will feature Ronnie Simpson as a keynote speaker. Ronnie is a 40-year-old professional sailor and former skipper of the Open 50 Shipyard Brewing, which competed in the 2023-24 Global Solo Challenge: a single-handed, non-stop sailing race around the world. Sailing most of the race in third place, Ronnie was dismasted after Cape Horn. Having already cleared all three Great Capes, he was unable to finish the race. Undeterred, Ronnie is now campaigning to compete in the second edition of the Global Solo Challenge in October of 2027 on a Class 40.

This year’s educational program includes both nationally and internationally recognized presenters, as can be seen in the full program. The sessions are:

• Preparing for Heavy Weather – and Dealing with It;
• Engine Preparation for Going Offshore;
• Leadership and Teamwork at Sea;
• Lithium-Ion Battery Care;
• Riding the Breeze – From Offshore Climate Patterns to Daily Shifts
• Sustainable Ocean Racing
• Optimizing Reaching and Downwind Sailing

Space is limited, so register today!

In an age of GPS and digital routing, celestial navigation remains a true art—and a powerful testament to seamanship and tradition. The Marion Bermuda Race is proud to be one of the few remaining ocean races that honors this legacy with a dedicated Celestial Navigation Class.

Navigating by the sun, moon, stars, and planets requires incredible skill, patience, and discipline. Tonight, we recognize those who took on this challenge and successfully completed the race using celestial navigation.

As a symbol of their achievement, each celestial navigator is awarded a lapel pin.

Please join us in recognizing the following sailors:

* 2/C Samantha Farley on DEFIANCE
* 1/C Matthew Irving in GALLANT
* 1/C Olivia Schuchard on GALLANT
* Leland Frantz on HOTSPUR II
* 2/C Aden Newman on INTEGRITY
* Andrew Howe on SANDPIPER

Offshore sailing isn’t just a hobby—it’s a calling. Of the 133 participants in this year’s race, 20% are back for their second, third, or even more adventures. And 8% have completed this race five times or more.

When we include those who’ve also sailed Newport Bermuda, the numbers are even more impressive: 16% have made the crossing five or more times, and 32% have done it three times or more.

Clearly, the ocean has a powerful pull.

For those making the round trip, that’s over 1,290 miles per race. At the award ceremony, we celebrated the skippers who’ve reached a major milestone—completing the Marion Bermuda Race five or more times — and awarded them with a Bermuda Longtail Pin.

Please join us in celebrating these milestones:

5 Races:
Murray Beach
Michael Kingsbury
Laurie Knight
Pike Severance

6 Races:
Gregg Marston

7 Races:

8 Races:
