As we celebrate the 50th Ohio River Sternwheel Festival, we want to take a moment to recognize and educate everyone on what it truly takes to make this incredible event happen.
Did you know that the festival has always been, and continues to be, run entirely by volunteers?
From entertainment, children's activities, fireworks, the 5K race, queen's pageants, public relations, and so much more, every aspect of the festival is organized and managed by dedicated volunteers. We have 37 different committees made up of more than 90 volunteers who devote their time, energy, and effort year-round to ensure this festival is a success. For some, their committee responsibilities become almost a full-time job.
We understand that not everyone will always agree with every music selection, social media post, vendor choice, or other decision made throughout the year. However, we ask that you remember that this festival exists because of the people who willingly give their time and talents, expecting nothing in return except the opportunity to help create one of the best festivals possible for our community and visitors.
As we celebrate 50 years of the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival, please join us in thanking the volunteers—past and present—who have made this event possible. Their dedication, passion, and commitment are the reason this festival continues to thrive and create memories for generations.
