Austinist gave Fire Fest an excellent review!
The inaugural Fire Fest kicked off on Saturday with 19 bands spread over three stages in a noise-friendly plot south of the Austin airport. Billed as an 'all night event', the music started at just after six in the evening and ran until dawn, with live bands replaced by DJ sets around 3am for the late night party people. Well-known personality BP Fallon emceed for several of the bands on the main stage. Camping was highly encouraged, and tents were pitched close to the stage areas for easy access.
The all-ages crowd heard many of the best indie bands in the Austin area. Food trucks served late night pizza and drinks to provide ample sustenance for the audience, and they were accompanied by a number of light and fire-themed vendors selling everything from sunglasses to light-up hats. A special area for fireworks was active all night, with a handy fireworks stand just next door to the festival grounds. Numerous planned activities, including a water balloon fight during the late afternoon and fire dancers late at night, provided great diversions. Logistics were also done well (especially for a first-year festival!) with friendly and effective security, water and cooling stations and other necessary support facilities.
