PLEASE NOTE: In accordance with Section 11-1118 of the Village Law of the State of New York, ALL OUTSTANDING WATER AND SEWER ACCOUNTS, which are not paid by the close of business hours on Thursday May 21, 2026, will become a lien on the real property against which such account is charged and will be subsequently added to the tax bill of June 1, 2026.

ITEMS TO BE COLLECTED ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Metal objects (including white goods), electronics, furniture. Tires will NOT be accepted.

Please be advised that no refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, or any appliances that contain refrigerants will be accepted unless there is a tag affixed to the item which clearly shows that the refrigerant has been removed. The tag must clearly show the date and authorizing agents name and address.

Village Deputy Clerk

The Village of Marathon, an equal opportunity employer, is seeking applications for the position of Deputy Clerk. The Deputy Clerk position performs monthly utility billing and assists the Village Clerk in carrying out the administrative duties and responsibilities of the office. The position is appointed by the Village Board. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Village Clerk/Treasurer, permitting leeway for the exercise of independent judgment when carrying out the details of the work.
ESSENTIAL Functions:
• Village Utility billing – includes all aspects of maintaining customer records
• Accounts Receivable
• Prepare abstracts for Board Meetings
• Office duties – Operating computers, copiers and purchasing supplies
• Notary Services
• Records Management
• Accounting experience preferred
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Detail oriented
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally, and in writing (with coworkers, elected officials, and the public)
• Knowledge of standard office procedures and practices
• Ability to research and prepare reports
• Ability to plan, organize
• Working knowledge of Word and Excel
Pay negotiable depending on experience

VILLAGE OF MARATHON
WATER/WASTEWATER OPERATOR

The Village of Marathon, an equal opportunity employer, is accepting resumes for a Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. This position involves responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the Village’s water distribution system, sewer lines, lift stations and related equipment. The scope of work also involves the performance of a variety of semi-skilled tasks in connection with the construction, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer mains, services and hydrants. Work to be performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Water/Wastewater.

Minimum Qualifications: High school or equivalency. Village supported training and schooling will assist the candidate to procure required certifications, such as 2B & D water operator and 3A Wastewater Operator.

Water service has been restored to Cortland Street in the Village of Marathon. The Water Department is recommending residents to run the water in your kitchen sink first to remove any air in the lines.

Due to a water main beak on Cortland Street in the Village of Marathon, the water department will need to shut the water off to all businesses and residents on Cortland Street beginning at approximately 11:00am today at this time we do not have a time when it will be turned back on. We will keep you informed as things change.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

With a heavy snowstorm on the way, the Village of Marathon's Street Department is asking people to avoid parking on Village streets to make snow removal easier. If street parking is necessary, please keep it to short periods.
As a reminder there is no overnight parking on Village Streets between Nov 1st and April 1st.

Garbage pickup for the Village of Marathon is Saturday January 3rd.

The Village Office will be closed Wednesday December 24th at Noon, Thursday, December 25th through Friday December 26th
for Christmas.

Garbage pick-up will be on Saturday December 27, 2025.

We will return to the office on Monday, December 29th.
