Welcome to the official page of The Illinois Oz Festival, held annually since 2011 at Butler Haynes Park in Mapleton, Illinois. Butler Haynes Park boasts a beautiful Oz Garden featuring a real Yellow Brick Road winding through the scenes and settings of the classic story. This make it the perfect place for a festival celebrating and reliving the magic of Oz! Visit the Gale family farm before makin

g your journey over the rainbow. Step out of Dorothy's house right into Munchkinland, skip past Scarecrow's cornfield, see Tin Man's cottage, and visit the Lion's wooded territory before reaching the gates of the Emerald City (just watch out for that poppy field!). You can even trek through the Haunted Forest and visit the Wicked Witch's castle if you dare! Each year, the Oz Festival features live entertainment, a vendor's market, petting zoo, children's activities, contests, and, of course, visits with Dorothy and her friends (and enemy) from the Land of Oz courtesy of nationally acclaimed touring troupe, The Spirit of Oz. We do our best to expand and improve upon the festival year after year! So, come out to Butler Haynes Park on the second Saturday of August and relive the adventure. It's the most fun you'll have this side of the rainbow! Watch our page for updates and info on this year's festival as they become available. Need more information? Here’s a fun retro feature of The Chesterton Wizard of Oz Festival, which is in many ways our spiritual ancestor. Once the biggest and most well known Oz Festival in the world, it paved the Yellow Brick Road for the many that came after. Many involved with this festival including The Spirit of Oz: Wizard of OZ Characters, Stevens Puppets, and several vendors are now staples of our festival right here in Mapleton.

Nothing makes a visit to the Oz Festival more special than interactions and photos with our special visitors from The Spirit of Oz: Wizard of OZ Characters! Check out this handy-dandy schedule of where they'll be when.

Pro Tip: Plan to arrive at set meet and greets and photo opportunities early. The characters keep a tight schedule throughout the day and long lines may be cut off up to 20 minutes before the scheduled end time to ensure that those in line get their turn.

Looking for a specific character? During the morning meet and greets, you can easily locate each character in the following locations:
Dorothy and Toto: Munchkinland near the crashed farmhouse
Scarecrow: In his cornfield along the Yellow Brick Road
Tin Man: At his cottage just inside the woods
Lion: In the woods just before the clearing to Emerald City
Glinda: Munchkinland near the shade trees
Wicked Witch of the West: At her castle in the Haunted Forest (follow the sign down the path off the Yellow Brick Road)
Miss Gulch: In Kansas near the Gale Farm
