Just returned from early voting at 102nd on the upper west side in Manhattan and sadly, the rumors are true. The poll workers refused to verify my ID as well as my wife’s. First time in nearly 40 years of voting that I wasn’t required to verify my identification. The poll workers stated that the only information required was my name, address and signature (which they also did not compare as they usually have in the past).
If this is the case, what is to prevent anyone from going to the poll right now with their neighbor’s info and vote? If there is no verification process in place the integrity of the election process is jeopardized.
Regardless of your political party affiliation, not requiring ID for the most critical and respected aspect of being an American - voting - is very, very undemocratic and undermines our entire rule of law.
We have to make this right.
