When: December 19-23, 2022

What to Expect:

The coaches are excited to work with all of your kids to improve their skills and baseball knowledge. For those of you who have had children on Coach Matt’s teams in the past or attended his camps, we’re happy to coach your child again.

For those who we have not coached, I hope you will enjoy our coaching style and what your child will get out of this camp. Below is a brief synopsis of what to expect at this camp.

The Staff:
Coach Matt will be assisted mainly by 6 coaches who he has coached with in the past in GMBL (David Lamb, Darwin Navarrete, Drew DeRenzis, Scott Glomb, Ben Swoyer and Justin Fisher ).

Along with these 6, we will also have a few other coaches that have coached with Coach Matt in the past who will help out during various practices. All of the coaches that we have helping know my style of coaching and we work well together.

Our focus/style is to make every athlete better. Not a single kid at this age is destined to be a star, and not a single kid is destined to sit on the bench. Every athlete will get attention and will improve from whatever skill level that they start at this winter.

Equipment:

All athletes should bring their own water bottles, baseball gloves, baseball bat, baseball helmet, and batting gloves (optional) to every practice.
No cleats are allowed on the turf in the facility, so all athletes should wear athletic shoes with no spikes.

Facility Rules:

Practice Dates and Times:

Workouts are held at Battlefield Sportsplex in Manassas. Practices are held at the indoor fields located at the left side once you walk in.
Monday December 19th (1Hour) 5PM-6PM Field #1- Batting Evaluations/ Tee Work, Pitching/Throwing Mechanics Evaluations, Middle Infield Mechanics Evaluations. All evaluations are made so that we can divide the players by skill level and focus the drills to the level of the players. This allows for all players to get more out of the camp instead of some being bored and others left behind.

Tuesday December 20th (1Hour) 5PM-6PM Field #2 - Batting Drills (Tee Work, wiffle balls, soft toss, other hitting drills), base running (steals, lead offs, sliding

Wednesday December 21st (1.5Hour ) 5PM-6:30PM Field #2 - Fielding Drills To Improve (glove placement, weight transfers, fielding mechanics, attack angles)

Thursday December 22nd (1Hour) 5PM-6PM Field #2 - Fielding Ground Balls off the bat and off the machine, turning 2, 1st baseman drills, catcher drills, outfield drills

Friday December 23rd (1.5 Hours) 5PM-6:30PM Field #2 - Batting

Workout/Practice Plan:
It is our intention to email parents/players each week with a brief overview of that week's practice focus. However, we create each practice plan based on what each group of players needs to work on the most, so sometimes we do not have time to get them out before the practice.

Each practice will start with BRIEF stretching and warming up with baseball focused movements. The facility did not have as much availability this year, so with the shorter practice time we are going to cut down our warm up time.

Once the kids have warmed up we will break them up into groups and begin individual drills run by each coach. Coach Matt will be floating from drill to drill and helping each coach and the kids in their drill.

The plan will be to incorporate around 6 individual drill stations per practice if time allows (some will be repeated in multiple practices).
Throughout the camp each player will receive individual attention/instruction hitting off of the tee with Coach Matt or one of the coaches.

After the first practice the coaches will get together to decide on groups based on skill level. The purpose of this is so that we can focus drills more specifically for the needs of each group. The groups will be named after team names GMBL uses in league play.
Each practice we will add more complicated or advanced drills depending on the progression of the players.

Many kids at this age are trying to do too much, or have been taught a baseball swing/stance/stride that is far too complicated for them to understand on a repeatable basis just yet.
These workouts will be very fundamental focused and we will be trying to break things down to as basic as possible and build on that.

General Information:

It is our intention to have a sign in sheet for every workout and hopefully have a parent volunteer who will sign the kids in and out each practice.

We will try to respond to all emails as timely as possible, but I apologize if it sometimes takes me multiple days to get back to you.

If any parents want to ask for any specifics that your child needs to work on, I am always happy to discuss after practice or through email, and suggest any drills or things they can practice at home.

Camp Cost and Payment Information:
The $160.00 payment is mostly going towards the facility rental as this is expensive and has gone up since last winter, some equipment that we will use in the drills, and t-shirts that we will pass out to the kids. Any left over money will be donated to the GMBL travel teams which are always trying to raise money throughout every season.

Payments can be made by check to Cavalry Baseball TT and sent to 8405 Briarmont Lane, Manassas, VA 20112. OR Payments can be made through Zelle to Cavalry Baseball TT at [email protected] OR PayPal to Cavalry Baseball TT at [email protected] (However paypal will take a 1.9% fee even though we are a non-profit).

Please make payment by the 9th of December because we always have a wait list of kids that would still like to join the workouts if space becomes available.
