Radnor Hunt Races

Radnor Hunt Races All event proceeds benefit the open space and clean water programs of the Brandywine Conservancy—the sole beneficiary of the Races for more than 40 years.

We're "Racing for Open Space!" Held annually on the third Saturday in May, the Radnor Hunt Races features thrilling jump races, an antique carriage parade, and the much-loved parade of foxhounds, with proceeds benefiting the Brandywine Conservancy. As one of the oldest regional steeplechases, the Radnor Hunt Races is a springtime tradition that draws the best thoroughbred horses, riders and traine

rs across the country. Built on a rich history of horse racing that has been cultivated in this region for nearly 100 years, the Radnor Hunt Races is supported by the legacy of protecting the stunning open spaces that make this region such a beautiful place to call home. Since 1967, the Conservancy has worked to preserve and protect the water, breathtaking landscapes, rich history and active farmland in this region. With the help of the Races and many likeminded partners, the Conservancy has protected over 69,200 acres of open space—including the Radnor Hunt racecourse itself and surrounding lands—and continues to improve and safeguard water quality, land protection, outdoor recreation and historic preservation in southeastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware.

From all of us at the Brandywine Conservancy, we thank everyone who came out to support the 95th Radnor Hunt Races this year! We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful and perfect day "Racing for Open Space" one last time as the sole operator and beneficiary of the Races. As we take a bittersweet bow from this event after more than four decades at the helm, we are also thrilled to share that the Radnor Hunt Foundation announced it will be carrying on the legacy of the Races moving forward, ensuring the event's continued success for what we hope will be many more decades to come.⁣

“For the last 45 years, the Brandywine has been honored to play a leadership role in this storied event, which has benefited the Conservancy’s open space and clean water initiatives," said Virginia Logan, The Frolic Weymouth Executive Director & C.E.O. of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art. "With the centennial running of the Races approaching in a few years, now was the right time for the Brandywine to pass the baton on to a new operator to continue the tradition of the Radnor Hunt Races into the event’s next century. We remain proud of the lasting legacy of ‘Racing for Open Space’ that we will carry forward, and we are pleased to know this event will continue in the capable hands of the Radnor Hunt Foundation."⁣

We remain deeply grateful for the leadership team and all members of the Radnor Hunt, the National Steeplechase Association, our committee members, sponsors, partners, race staff and officials, volunteers, thoroughbred owners and trainers, jockeys, and spectators like who have supported this event over the years and helped make this year's event such a success!⁣

As we pass the reins over to the Radnor Hunt Foundation, the Brandywine has been working closely with their leadership team to help lay the groundwork for a smooth and successful transition of the Races moving forward. There's plenty of fun in store, and we can't wait for all the incredible tailgates, amazing fashions, and Race Day excitement this event is known for! If you need pick-me-up, swing by the hillside near the tennis courts to grab a specialty coffee from Cafe Gourmino or a beer from Brothers Kershner Brewing Co. And while you’re there, grab a bite from Mini Millie’s Pasta Cart and top it all off with a sweet treat from Oola Bowls. We can't wait to see you all at the Races!

All proceeds benefit the open space programs of the Brandywine Conservancy.
