Join us on Aug. 20 for the FireStarters Indigenous special screening as part of Macon Film Festival! This two documentary evening will celebrate Indigenous resilience, encourage reflection, and open up a conversation on contemporary issues.
📍First, a pre-show reception at 5:45 PM will celebrate Muscogee artist Starr Hardridge’s new installation in Bicentennial Park, a culmination of his residency with Macon Arts Alliance.
📍Then at 7:15 PM, we will show the short "Defend the Sacred, Preserve the Past" that uses two stories from both here in the Southeast and an ocean away to demonstrate the Muscogee Nation’s fight for justice.
đź“ŤFinally, in the feature film "Aanikoobijigan [ancestor/great-grandparent/great-grandchild]" ancestors manipulate time and space within museum archives, confronting history and spirituality as specialists battle for Indigenous remains.
đź“ŤAfter the movie, listen to a Q&A with RaeLynn Butler, Secretary of Culture and Humanities for the Muscogee Nation.
