Canadian artist Jack L Gray was commissioned by Edmund Fitzgerald to paint the schooner Columbia, a depiction that would hang in the ship's lounge to commemorate the commissioning of the freighter to Columbia Transportation. Columbia was the first with ore through the locks, but was lost in a storm at Death's Door. That makes this a shipwreck painting hanging in a shipwreck 500 feet below Lake Superior's waves. STORM at Whitefish Point (Aug 26) will spotlight the amazing rescue teams that served at four outposts along the Shipwreck Coast.
