Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby Where the rubber meets the road! See ya on the hill....Derby Hill. This division is designed to give the first-time builder a learning experience.

The Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby (SGSBD) is a local race qualifier for the First Energy All-American Soap Box Derby (AASBD). This local race (started in 1992) is held annually in Lyons, Georgia, and features more than 50 competitors from Southeast Georgia. Each competitor builds his/her own gravity-powered car from a kit typically with assistance from an adult or mentor. The winner of the SGSB

D in Lyons is called a “Local Champion” and is eligible to compete in the First Energy AASBD World Championship in Akron, Ohio against other Local Champions from all over the United States and several foreign countries. Stock Division – Racers (age 7-13) compete in cars built from ready-to-assemble kits, which assist the Derby novice by providing a step-by-step layout and components for the construction of a basic style car. Super Stock Division – Racers (age 10-17) have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and build a larger, heavier model car, also from a kit. The Masters division (also known as Scottie) is for racers 10-20 years old and is driven by the more experienced drivers. Masters cars can accommodate a child up to (approximately) 6'0" tall and 160 pounds.

The Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby is extremely proud to name our Soapbox Derby Pageant Director Casey Peterson Miller! It is an honor to have her, she is always willing to help in anyway, and WE just hope we can all do the same! she showed up and helped tremendously with the superkids race as well as the Local race! Makes us all feel good knowing we have someone that truly seems to love derby!! Mrs. Casey, We are looking forward to seeing what you can do for our Southeast Georgia Soapbox Derby Pagent!!

Four of our Southeast Georgia Soapbox Derby kids and two dads made the trip to Derby Downs for the Akron Area Sbd Memorial day rally and I believe everyone had a great time! We took our local Stock champion Weston Claxton our local Masters Champion Isaac Pickels and 2 of our rally Champions Henry Warren and Charles Conner. Just trying to get some practice in before the All American Soapbox Derby World Championships in July. And I have to say we was able to do just that but I have to brag on our stock drivers
Weston Claxton started off alittle shakie but then showed out, and got a 4th and a 7th place out of some very tough cars.

Henry Warren ended up walking away with a 3rd. Out of a very tough field.

Isaac Pickels and Charles Conner drove good and we figured out some stuff we need to address before the All American world championship in July.

It was great seeing people we haven seen in a year! Looking forward to seeing everyone again in July!

Tonight we had our first derby meeting under the new Director and the new committee was picked and appointed. And they are:
