What a wonderful time I had with the quilters from the Santa Monica Quilt Guild!

We are excited to welcome Michelle Banton of Little Pup Designs (Michelle Banton) to our next virtual meeting via Zoom on Wed. May 5th. Michelle will present a lecture entitled "Cotton to Consumer."

What is the process of growing cotton, creating fabric, designing fabric, having it printed and delivered to your local quilt shop? Probably much more that you ever considered. You will learn how it's grown and manufactured. You will get insights on how different designers create special lines of fabric, and how manufacturers get their goods into your local quilt shops.

We designers greatly appreciate every pattern bought and every respect of copyright. A hard truth: We don't love when you tell us to our faces that you don't think you should have to buy a pattern to take our class, or that you copied your friend's copy of our pattern, or that you probably can figure it out for yourself. Patterns represent us doing the hard work of design, math, technique, tips, maybe a little (or a lot) of fun thrown in...all for $10ish! And WE LOVE sharing what we do, and being appreciated for it! Thank you to all who respect designers and copyright, and in all honesty I think I have amazing customers who truly do respect it, myself, and my designing colleagues!

Won't you consider joining this fun workshop? A week from this Thursday (Sept 26). Workshop is in Pepperell, MA. Debbie Maddy brings just about everything we need (included in her kit fee). Wear old clothes, waterproof gloves and prepare to have fun and watch the magic of Indigo happen. Contact me (or Beth Kerr Helfter - her contact information is below) if you are interested. Local to New England people - my guild, Squanicook Colonial Quilt Guild, is hosting National Teacher of the Year Debbie Maddy of Calico Carriage for a Shibori Indigo Dyeing workshop on Thursday, 9/26, from 9:30-3:30 at the Lawrence Library on Main St in Pepperell MA. Cost is $50 for non guild members, plus a kit fee to Debbie at the class. Description: "We will make an Indigo vat first thing in the day then the FUN begins. We will learn to use all kinds of clamps, blocks, ties, slinkies, PVC pipe and twine to create resists on the fabrics for dipping in the indigo. You name it and we will try it. This class is fun on steroids with beautiful results."
