Thank you, Ruben Ibarra, and The Lufkin Daily News, for showcasing our Music Mingles! We couldn't do it without all of the wonderfully talented musicians who frequent our establishment.

A huge shout-out to all our Lufkin Limners who helped make this happen, and those who continue to work diligently for its continued success. We can't thank you enough for all that you do for us!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again next week!

In a place few would expect, local teens and young adults have found something to call their own, a small but rising outlet for live music and connection in a space that wasn’t built for them.

A venue more often associated with older crowds and traditional gatherings is instead filled with a largely younger audience, many of them drawn by a style of music that has not always had a strong presence locally. Remember the true meaning of Memorial Day. This weekend, and every day, we honor the members of the military who gave their lives in battle. Some were lost in the deserts of Iraq or the mountains of Afghanistan. Others sacrificed their lives in previous conflicts, such as World War II, Korea, or Vietnam.

Additionally, we must acknowledge those who have struggled with mental health challenges and took their own lives after returning home. So, as you enjoy grilling and spending time with family and friends this weekend, take a moment to remember all of them.

Get your poppies at Walmart today and tomorrow and "wear them proudly." 🫡

The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made while protecting our freedoms. It is traditionally worn the Friday before Memorial day to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn our nation's uniform.

The poem "In Flanders Field" was written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, a Canadian who served as a brigade surgeon for an Allied artillery unit during WWI. McCrae tended to the wounded and got a firsthand look at the carnage of the second battle of Ypres. Some 87,000 Allied soldiers were killed, wounded, or went missing. But in the warm early spring of 1915, bright red flowers began peeking through the battle-scarred land. Struck by the sight of bright red blooms on broken ground, McCrae channeled the voices of the fallen soldiers beneath the hardy poppies.

Trying not to make this a TL;DR, but there are so many people we want to recognize for making our Vet Fest Day and Buddy Poppy Dance & Dinner a huge success!

First off, we couldn’t make it happen without our volunteers who dedicate their time and service to all that we do. Our entire organization runs on volunteers. From our day-to-day operations to our major events, our volunteers work endlessly performing administrative work, routine cleaning and maintenance, and setting up and tearing down from one event to the next.

All of it comes from service-oriented folks who sacrifice time from their jobs and their families to keep our doors open. To all of you who lent a helping hand this past weekend, a heartfelt thank you!!

Then there’s our community. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to keep our current establishment up and running. So many of you continue to support us day in and day out. Your time, your talent, and your patronage do not go unnoticed.

To all of you who volunteered your services and equipment throughout Vet Fest, we couldn’t have pulled it off without you! And to all of you who came to enjoy the experience, thank you for your support!

A huge shout-out to all of our Limner Musicians & ACT Community, Red Dirt Productions, Lufkin RC Aeromodelers Club, CASI Chili Organization, and I-69 Trucking for providing all the necessary equipment and entertainment for Saturday’s Vet Fest. You did an OUTSTANDING job! We hope to see you all again next year!

Also, a huge thanks to all of our members and patrons who worked behind the scenes smoking briskets and pork, or in the kitchen baking desserts, and to our guests who volunteered to judge the chili competition.

Last, but certainly not least, our sponsors! As a non-profit organization, we rely on generous donors to help offset the costs of such large productions. You continue to help us year in and year out, event after event. From table purchases to food donations to raffle items, and so much more, we thank you for all of it!

A round of applause for McAlister’s Deli, Bodacious BBQ, Massingill’s Meat Market, Lufkin Coca-Cola, Farmhouse Bakery, Brookshire Bros, HEB, Grandough Baking Co, Discount Tire, Timber Ridge Outfitters, FTR Forestry Service, Tome, Faust Beer Distributors, Kennedy Health & Rehabilitation, Pilgrim's Pride, Weisinger Electric, Inc, Alvey Chiropractic, Oncor, CBTx, Mustang CAT, and TCA Solutions who all contributed to Saturday’s event!

We’d also like to thank the American Legion and all of our vendors for their participation in this year’s Vet Fest, as well as Bill & Troy Seale, the To Be Determined band, and Auctioneer Kent Crank for providing our Buddy Poppy entertainment. We also have a few anonymous donors who deserve some appreciation. You know who you are! (F.I.L.P.)

Thank you all so very much! Until next year… 🫡
