Nobody plans for rain.

But there's something that happens when the sky opens up on a wedding day. The schedule loosens. The posed shots become something else. And suddenly you're standing on a bridge in the middle of a Kentucky farm while everything around you is soft and green and soaked — and somehow it's the most beautiful the day has looked.

They say rain on your wedding day is good luck. A blessing. The last tears the bride will ever cry. And standing here watching these two on the island, on the bridge, on the balcony — we believe it.

This was May at Hazelnut Farm.

The kind of light that only exists when the sun is hiding and the whole world smells like rain.

She's not the one getting married today.

But she's been here for all of it.

As her child walks toward someone who loves them. And every version of that kid she's ever known flashes through her mind at once.

We get a front-row seat to that moment at Hazelnut Farm — again and again. The mother of the bride with shaking hands placing a veil. The mother of the groom smoothing a lapel one last time like she's always done. Both of them letting go of something they've held for decades, and doing it with so much grace.
