Two separate buildings once upon a time, Uncle Slayton’s music venue and urban outpost near downtown Louisville, KY, presented its first show in March of 2011. Dating back to 1895, the Unc's vintage vibe and double-wide floor plan created an exposed brick and wood “small hall” performance space with pin-drop acoustics and a separate bar area, plus a rear patio/smoking area is open seasonally. Yep,

cozy, and designed to showcase and nurture the finest talent in the Mid-South and beyond: Local and touring bands, those emerging in the market, and established artists who preferred a more intimate setting all found a home here. Completely accessible with modern PA system and the area’s most accomplished sound & recording engineers, Slayton's also opened its doors for rehearsals, special events and after-show soirees. After a mighty fine run of two and a half years, Slayton's held its final and 288th show on July 27, 2013.

busy weekend, no surprise there - those three bands down there that played Slayton's final show? all 3 of them have it goin' on this Friday night: Small Time Napoleon 'stars' at a holiday house concert...Appalatin and Leora Nosko play the Vernon Club (along with Andrea Davidson Music, who's also featured at Thursday's lunchtime 'Mayor's Gallery Music & Arts Series'). let the celebrations begin!

so, the dust has settled and we look ahead to what's next on the agenda. much love and thanks to all for your support of this 'vintage vibe' we called home, and special thanks to those who helped send it off in style at our final show - we definitely had us a time! it was one for the books, to be sure, with Appalatins, Bibelhausers, Billy Goats and Boones, all manner of individual musicians, 'regulars' both old and new, out-of-towners and (always) first-timers all part of the mix...so many in the same place at the same time and we thank you for making that time stand still, at least for a bit.

here's to seeing each other down the road, up on the roof and in the midnight garden - cheers!

~ Rebecca and Bill

New Englanders Shanti Curran and Buck Curran have first names as unique and free-spirited as the music they make. The married couple’s take on various folk styles — ambient, bluesy, British — is druggy in the holistic sense, more “Lord of the Rings” than Mumford & Sons (“British” here refers to the classic folk breakthroughs of Pentangle, The Incredible String Band, Fairport Convention, and so on). The natives of the other Portland, in Maine, came through here last year and are always worth seeing, but especially this time with opening act Mariee Sioux, whose collaborative EP with Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Bonnie & Mariee, was released this spring on Spiritual Pajamas Records. —Peter Berkowitz
