I've been working with Aston Martin F1 and their cruise sponsor, Regent Cruise Lines for about 5 months building out 3 Motorsport Themed Shore Excursions in Barcelona, Monaco and Bologna for a 12-Day Aston Martin F1 themed Cruise, beginning in Barcelona and ending in Rome. Sphinx Mountain Motorsports update! What a weekend! If you saw yesterday's post, you read about getting stuck behind a pesky Formula Continental. Today was a bit more hair raising. The car / driver in question had several trips to the stewards both days. He hit another car yesterday taking the other car out of the race. He was not checking his mirrors.

Today's infraction during race 1, was cutting across the front of my car, while I clearly had the line, was passing him and he never checked his mirrors. We bumped, it was light contact, but still annoying. He ended up spinning out across the front of the car, and we were both able to continue. He then spun again trying to catch me, and ended up creating chaos for the rest of the session. The stewards felt it best to send him home for unsafe driving.

The final race came and managed to Take P1 in class and 3rd overall!! YES MY FIRST WIN in class and great finish overall out of 22 cars on track!

Ok folks, Sphinx Mountain Motorsports will be at NHMS (Loudon) at the end of the month. July 27/28 we will be racing in SCCA NER Round 4.

This is a special event as it is the Race Against Leukemia, where we are racing to raise money for prevention and treatment of the disease.

Aside from getting to see the Sphinx Mountain Motorsports Radical SR3 in action, there is plenty of great, wheel-to-wheel racing action on the 12 turn road course.

Where's all my CT peeps? Sphinx Mountain Motorsports is headed to Lime Rock Park this Friday and Saturday for the second round of the SCCA NER Road Racing Series. If you're looking for something fun to spectate, c'mon over to Lakeville CT and watch some fantastic wheel to wheel racing. Hundreds of cars, dozens of classes and lots of action. All other race weekends will be the traditional Saturday / Sunday. LRP is unique in the Sunday is the Lord's day, and with the church across the road, we keep it quiet for the parishioners.

The primary goal for us this weekend is to finish both races. I'm still learning the car and am looking forward to more seat time. I'm not sure how competitive I'll be, but will keep working to lower lap times.

P.S. Mark your calendars now. July 27/28 We'll be at NHMS in Loudon NH. It'd be great to see many of you there. Its the Annual SCCA Race Against Leukemia and we're racing to raise money for those fighting Leukemia.

If you look at the pictures from Friday, you'll see I had the front left tire go down very quickly at 112 MPH. Well, here is the on board. You can see the car pull to the left suddenly. Despite how drama free this looks, I can assure you, it was all I could do to muscle the car to keep it on the track. Steering, braking, and looking for a safe exit in the span of about 5-6 seconds with a car that isn't working with you is terrifying.

Some on board footage of the MassTuning Track Day at Thompson Motor Speedway. My fastest lap was a 1:18:835. If you scroll to the 16:00 you'll see me get past a red BMW. If I had a better drive out of turns 11/12 down the straight, I think I'd have been in the low 1:17's high 1:16's. I still need to find another 5-6 seconds. Keep in mind both the car and this track are new to me. With more seat time and consistency, I'll shave the seconds off the times.

Had a great day at the SCCA Drivers School on Friday. Got 3+ hours of seat time and signed off on for my "Ready to Race" status. Arguably the fastest car out there. I fell more in love with the car and really started building confidence. Sadly I'm going to miss the season opener at Palmer on May 11-12. I'm not sure how I did it, but I destroyed my lower back about 8 weeks ago and will be going in for surgery on May 9th. I do plan on being back in the cockpit for the June event Fathers Day weekend at Lime Rock Park.
