Dear Test The Watters runners, followers, and fans:
While we're still 55 days away from our Nov. 7 Test The Watters Trail Run, it's become increasingly clear over the past few weeks that we'll not be able to hold this race due to the State Park's coronavirus event size restrictions (currently 25 people max, including event staff). There's no relaxation of this limit in sight as our State COVID19 numbers continue to rise.
I know this is a big disappointment to all. Runners have been training hard and our Event Staff has worked over the past year to expand the race, build a new ultra-distance course, and develop a new 501c3 non-profit. As a fellow ultrarunner who enjoys the thrill of racing, it's been a major bummer to watch event after event get cancelled in 2020.
NOT ALL IS LOST! To lessen the sting a bit, I would like to offer runners a chance (and challenge) to continue in a ‘virtual’ format. Life is better when you have a Big Goal in front of us. Perhaps keeping this Virtual Race on the schedule can even provide some much needed covid-coping.
Here’s how things would work:
· If you have already registered, you should have received details about the 30 Sep deadline to request a refund.
· The 50K/25K registration fee will be reduced to $40, which will cover the cost of the T-Shirt (plus shipping) plus a $20 donation that will be directed to United Way. 10K/5K race entry fee will remain the same.
· After 30 Sep you’re committed! There will be no further refunds after that date for any reasons.
· The Virtual Run: you will need to pick your own route and complete your 50K/25K distance over the weekend of 7-8 Nov. You’re also free to run the course at Watters Smith State Park. The Park will be open that weekend and the course will be well marked, including the start/finish lines. The course passes by the parking lot so you can use your vehicle as an aid station.
· There will be a self-reporting feature for your time on the Ultrasignup site (I will email more details about a week out). Once you complete that it will trigger me to send out your finishers t-shirt. Remember – everything about this virtual race is ‘unofficial’. Your time may mean something personal to you, so it will be in the records for posterity’s sake. However, we will not assign places (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and the results will clearly state this run was held in a virtual format.
· Lastly, if you chose to go the virtual path, remember that you do so on your own and at your own risk. Just have a great time with your running partners, challenge yourself for a new goal/PR, and walk away with a small victory and some good memories
Thank you for everyone's support and patience, and let's plan on doing the 'real' version in 2021!
