Healing the Nervous System is all about SAFETY (PERIOD) ⚫️
Here are three techniques I use to bring safety to my nervous system:
💗 Slow, deep breathing: Engaging in slow, diaphragmatic breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, signaling the body that it’s safe and helping to calm stress responses. Lengthening the exhale is particularly soothing.
💗 Grounding techniques: Focusing on physical sensations, such as feeling your feet on the ground, holding a comforting object, or using your senses (touch, smell, sight), can help bring the body into the present moment, reducing feelings of overwhelm and reactivity.
💗 Co-regulation with others: Connecting with a trusted person, whether through conversation, physical touch, or just being in their presence, can regulate the nervous system. Safe, calm social interactions support the brain’s ability to feel safe and reduce stress.
