I am not necessarily disputing any other Sorors experience, but when I became a Delta, (looking back) I can honestly say that God intervened for me and my line. We were read in by Sorors from Washington because they were correcting mistakes reported to them by someone. We, (I ) didn’t have ANY RITUALS OR SAY ANYTHING THAT WAS OPPOSING TO THE BIBLE OR would violate my own personal conscience! And I was a Christian even then, December 1973! AND There are no requirements of secret rituals or bowing down to idols even today. I cannot speak for DST chapters other than the many ones I’v. been to, and never saw or was told to worship Delta Sigma Theta or as a statue to love before God!
Any songs or words or songs we sing did not impact me as idolatry! The were all SYMBOLIC, not literal, meaning that a young Black woman should know enough to recognize her self worth, her virtues and self love to see herself in a community that loved her like she should love herself!
Being that DST is an organization whose basic agenda is to help people (our own Black People particularly), joining DST provided the platform and organization needed to serve and help ourselves and others unisolated in a still racist America.
If any woman misunderstood that the organization of DELTA SIGMA THETA INC. was meant to be or attempting to take the place of GOD, JESUS OR THE HOLY GHOST by being called their first love, Our FATHER should never just be reduced to your first love, GOD THE FATHER, JESUS and THE HOLY GHOST are your ORIGINAL ONLY LOVE because it is that LOVE that allowed you to be conceived, formed in the womb, who actually created you to even have sense enough to want to help others and your community!
And as for Minerva, we don’t worship a mythological demon goddess. She is just symbolic for HEROISM because of the myth written about her. Delta Sigma is not Church! It is a secular not profit organization.

As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
It’s unfortunate that many women have pledged Delta Sigma Theta with NO previous relationship with Christ or knowledge of the Holy Scriptures. Women with that problem by all means SHOULD reevaluate all their life commitment with THE LORD including marriage, parenthood and everything else. And once examined, maybe they need to start all over to make CHRIST their ORIGINAL LOVE. Then and only then can they make decisions as sons(and daughters) of GOD, being led of the HOLY SPIRIT, having a sound mind with a conscience gloved in GOD’S WORD! Then and only then can a woman easily dawn the title of Soror just as easily as according to the occasion dawn the title and mantle of Mother, parent, wife, friend , sister, minister, etc. or any occupational title conferred upon then so to “GET THE JOB DONE”!
